SHINE 2Europe, in collaboration with its partners in the Smart Against Ageism (SAA) project, played an active role in the transnational meeting in the city of Gouda in the Netherlands. The meeting, held on November 28 and 29, 2023, was hosted by AFEdemy, a SHINE partner with a strong working relationship in promoting favourable environments for older people.
SAA is an innovative project based on a game-based educational tool with the aim of raising awareness against ageism. As the project nears completion, this meeting played a crucial role, allowing the partners to define the next steps and witness the development of the game, which is about to be launched. Highlights during the meeting included the Trainers’ Toolkit and the Policy Recommendations Brochure, with productive discussions, brainstorming sessions and evaluation of ongoing activities. The meeting ended on a high note with the participation of associated partner Stichting iDb, a Dutch foundation dedicated to identifying, preventing and combating discrimination and unequal treatment.
The SAA project, funded by the European Commission’s Erasmus+ programme, is coordinated by ISIS Institut für Soziale Infrastruktur. In addition to SHINE 2Europe and AFEdemy, the consortium includes AGE Platform Europe, Alzheimer Bulgaria Association, Asociacija Senjorų iniciatyvų centras and European Association for the Education of Adults – EAEA.
On the project’s website https://saa-game.eu/, you can follow the progress of the game tool, which is designed to broaden knowledge about ageism and provide users with perspectives of people affected by or at risk of discrimination and exclusion due to their age. The main aim of the project is to promote the development of empathy, tolerance of diversity and the expansion of civil society skills. The tools will be made available for free at the end of the project, helping to rebuild the image of older adults as full citizens and boosting their social participation.
