SHINE 2Europe, represented by Carina Dantas, took part in the GCPCC 2024 conference in Gothenburg, Sweden. This was the stage for discussions on the need for patient-centred care and the involvement of digital health stakeholders.
Carina Dantas spoke about social and ethical innovation in the use of Artificial Intelligence in healthcare, presenting SHINE’s model for this purpose and showing how ethical evaluation and stakeholder involvement favours the creation of more inclusive, patient-centred, and especially more reliable and safe solutions.
SHINE focussed mainly on two of its innovative projects: RadioVal and AI4HF, both funded by the European Union. The RadioVal project aims to test an AI solution for breast cancer, while AI4HF focuses on developing reliable AI tools in the field of heart failure. In both cases, SHINE’s role is to ensure that artificial intelligence solutions are developed ethically and with a strong focus on reliability and transparency, involving all players in the discussion.
The audience was full of healthcare professionals, researchers and various organisations, brought together with the aim of providing more humane and personalised care, where technology serves as a tool to improve patients’ quality of life. SHINE’s approach emphasises the need for multifaceted collaboration, involving not only healthcare professionals, but also patients, their families, policymakers, regulators and the community at large.
