From June 1 to 3, SHINE participated in the AGE-MEDU project’s Learning, Teaching & Training (LTT) event, which took place in Athens and brought together partners from various European countries to develop innovative solutions for training in geriatric and gerontological nursing.
During the meeting in Athens, the partners focused on validating the virtual environment currently under development, allowing nursing students from the University of Porto and other partner institutions to experience different simulated clinical scenarios. The feedback gathered was essential for refining the platform, which aims to provide immersive, real-life scenario-based training using VR technology in the future.
At the same time, the 4th project meeting was held, focused on monitoring the progress of the various activities and strengthening cooperation among the partners from Croatia, the Netherlands, Portugal, and Greece. SHINE was represented in person by Luís Dias and Frederico Amaral.
The main expected outcomes of AGE-MEDU include the assessment of needs and gaps in geriatric nursing education, the formulation of recommendations for educational policies, the creation of a new curriculum, and the development of digital materials aimed at students, faculty, and healthcare professionals. Online training sessions are also planned to enhance the digital skills of faculty and external trainers.
SHINE’s participation in this initiative underscores the organization’s commitment to innovation in health education and to the continuous improvement of care provided to the elderly population through advanced technological solutions such as the AGE-MEDU platform.
