SHINE participated in PROPHET & 4PCAN’s joint event on personalised prevention, co-sponsored from the EU Partnership on Transforming Health and Care Systems, in Rome on 26–27 March 2026.
SHINE’s CEO Carina Dantas was there for great discussions and synergies about the multiple factors enabling and hindering the Personalized Prevention roadmap for the future Healthcare that is developing a Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA) for personalized prevention in order to support the implementation of innovative, sustainable and effective personalized programmes to prevent common chronic diseases.
The event served as a key platform to present and advance the SRIA and the roadmap, with the ambition to identify concrete synergies with ongoing European initiatives and translate strategic priorities into coordinated action. Rather than serving solely as a dissemination moment, the meeting was designed to align actors, map complementarities, and explore how existing projects and partnerships can contribute to implementing the Roadmap’s proposed actions.
Several major European initiatives contributed to a focused discussion on how to strengthen collaboration across the personalised prevention ecosystem, ensure coherence between research and policy efforts, and provide tangible momentum to the Roadmap’s implementation at European level.
According to the latest report on the Health Status of Europe the main causes of death in European Union countries are represented by chronic diseases, including circulatory diseases and various types of cancer, followed by respiratory disease. These are also the most prevalent diseases, reducing quality of life. Moreover, every year, 900,000 people in the EU die prematurely due to risk factors that can largely be prevented.
SHINE’s CEO Carina Dantas discussed some specific challenges and namely the many factors influencing community engagement and trust, changing behaviours and involving HPC’s. It was a really relevant conversation for many of SHINE’s projects, such as CURTAIN, MAYA, TRACE and CAREWAY, where the Living Labs, co-research and public procurement of innovative solutions (PPI), and literacy hubs are paving the way for involving people in research, empower them and fight disinformation.
