On June 6, SHINE 2Europe took part in a round table discussion at ISCTE | Instituto Universitário de Lisboa, organized by researcher José Pinto da Costa from CRIA-NOVA (Center for Research in Anthropology-Universidade Nova de Lisboa), who moderated the event. SHINE’s CEO, Carina Dantas and the company’s researcher, Miriam Cabrita, as well as Paulo Nunes de Abreu, Pedro Roseiro and Vítor Oliveira Jorge took part in the discussion.
At the meeting, SHINE shared ideas on how to design futures that encompass society, technologies and also the much-discussed Artificial Intelligence, under the premise that social reality is multi-temporal, combining in the present (place of perception) the past (experience) and the future (expectation). The work that has been carried out in projects such as AI4HF, involving patients and professionals discussing how to design (future) technological solutions to support health, was one of the examples discussed, as a way of increasing personal autonomy and empowering the management of well-being.
According to the event’s organizers, the aim is to treat the future as an object of anthropological study, since understanding current practices requires the analysis of different ways of anticipating their effects. For Carina Dantas, this was an excellent opportunity to share “in an exciting conversation, perspectives that are very much in line with the work SHINE does on a daily basis”.
