SHINE 2Europe is one of 18 organisations that make up the international consortium of MULTIPULM, a project funded by the Horizon Europe programme with €4.4 million over four years, managed by the European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA). The aim is to revolutionise the care provided to people with chronic respiratory diseases and multimorbidity – the coexistence of two or more chronic diseases – in low- and middle-income countries, namely Brazil, Serbia and Turkey.
MULTIPULM will develop an integrated digital platform to improve prevention, management and coordination of care, involving 2,750 patients in clinical trials. More than just technology, the project focuses on co-creation with patients, families and healthcare professionals, so that solutions are truly useful, inclusive and adapted to local realities.
The kick-off meeting took place in Athens, with a common vision: to reduce inequalities and improve the quality of life of people with chronic diseases in contexts where access to integrated care is still limited. SHINE 2Europe, represented by CEO Carina Dantas and Research Director Miriam Cabrita, plays a central role as leader of Work Package 2, dedicated to needs analysis, stakeholder engagement and implementation planning, while also promoting the project’s connection to the Global Alliance for Chronic Diseases (GACD).
With 18 partners from 10 countries, the consortium is led by Uni Systems (Greece) and brings together institutions of excellence, including the University of Coimbra and the Faculty of Human Kinetics, alongside organisations from the United Kingdom, Belgium, Cyprus, Romania, Serbia, Brazil and Turkey. Together, they aim to create a sustainable and replicable model of integrated digital care that can be expanded to other countries with similar socio-economic contexts.
