The NESHack event is a hackathon organised in the project NewEcoSmart, aiming to Italy develop innovative solutions addressing challenges related to green and digital transitions, as well as social innovation in rural areas and the habitat sector. During three days (from September 18th to 20th), teams from Spain, Portugal and Italy worked to present innovative solutions to face the challenges pointed out by previous research in the project.
The event ended on 20 September, with the participants presenting their projects to the jury. Ivan Chorbev, speaking on behalf of the jury, praised the teams for their dedication and innovative thinking. He emphasised that each solution was both intriguing and impactful, making the evaluation process extremely difficult due to the very close scores.
A total of 25 participants contributed their pioneering ideas, tackling some of Europe’s most pressing environmental and social issues.

- Portuguese teams: GeoAID, Connect 45+ and BTTB.
SHINE, as a partner of the NewEcoSmart project, is also very happy with the results of this activity. This ESF+ funded project aims to create an inclusive social innovation approach to improve the skills of adults aged 45 and over in rural areas, helping them to adapt to ecological and digital transitions in their current jobs or to find new opportunities in habitat-related sectors. This initiative also promotes social entrepreneurship skills and mindsets that support the adoption of circular and socially responsible business models.
