Milko Zanini

Milko Zanini after spending more than 20 years in the public health service, started his academic career at the University of Genoa (Italy) in 2014, and ever since, in addition to all his teaching commitments, he has conducted many research studies and projects in the field of healthcare quality and safety, and Geriatric Nursing specially focused on malnutrition and swallowing impairments in frail people, with a history of over 100 publications in peer reviewed journals. 

In particular, he started conducting research in direct connection with the RN4CAST International Consortium in 2015 and has since then conducted several funded national research projects on topics specifically related to nurse staffing, nurse-patient ratios, skill-mix and missed care. In relation to these topics, he has built and maintained longstanding contacts and collaborated with renown international experts in this field. Especially in the last 5 years, Dr. Milko Zanini has focused his work on exploring the association between essential missed nursing care, nurse staffing ratios, patient safety, and nurses’ job satisfaction. He own two international patents on the field of nutrition for swallowing impairment. 

At the moment Milko is assistant professor at the Department of Health Sciences at the University of Genoa (IT). He’s also part of the board of Sigma International Alpha Alpha Beta Chapter in Italy as Treasurer and part of the European Board of director.
