SHINE’s CEO Carina Dantas presented CURTAIN Project at the Thematic Session: EU4Health Supporting Cancer Action on February 6, with an amazing line up of speakers and projects in Portugal.
With initial presentations from the Portuguese Ministério da Saúde – XXV Governo da República Portuguesa, the European Commission’s Joint Research Center and the Portuguese officers of the EU4Health programme – Ines Ferreira, Miguel Caetano, Celia Burgaz – the event was further enriched by the presentation of Prof. Isabel Fernandes Borges da Costa, the Director of the national Programme for Oncological Disease (PNDO-DGS), with a set of indicators, baseline statistics and several key international projects and initiatives
Organised by the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Health as the National Focal Point for the EU4Health Programme, the session was dedicated to the role of European funding in strengthening the fight against cancer. It aimed to highlight projects funded by the EU4Health Programme and to provide an opportunity for reflection and discussion on the impact of these projects on prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment and quality of life for people with cancer.
The main foreseen outcomes, pillars and results so far of CURTAIN Project (Beating Cancer Inequalities through Literacy in Europe) were highlighted, such as the gaps analysis, the KPIs for cancer literacy programmes and the 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗠𝗮𝗽, showcasing 1000+ organisations and institutions working to advance cancer literacy across Europe.
Three other projects were presented, Unified Network for International Cancer Advancement (UNICA), MELODIC (Mental health support for young adults with cancer) and CLEAR-PC Project (Cancer Literacy and Education for Awareness, Research and Care in Prostate Cancer), interesting initiatives with great synergies potential.
