On November 7, the SHINE team organised a co-creation session as part of the Memorable project, aimed at developing educational materials to support artists and cultural institution staff in becoming more inclusive and dementia-friendly.
The session brought together a diverse group of participants, including informal caregivers, representatives from Alzheimer Portugal and cultural inclusion associations, researchers, psychologists, and museum professionals. Over two hours, the group discussed the first draft of the curriculum, providing valuable input on how to make the training practical, engaging, and relevant.
Accessibility and inclusivity were key themes, with participants encouraging activities to consider not only physical accessibility. Finally, the session underlined the importance of effective community outreach and sustained programmes to ensure that activities are widely known, accessible, and have lasting impact. The discussion also highlighted the importance of supporting informal caregivers, ensuring they are aware of available activities and have access to opportunities where they can relax, connect, and socialise with others.
The Memorable project is an Erasmus+ initiative involving partners from Portugal, Bulgaria (Coordinator), the Netherlands, Germany, and Ireland. The project aims to make cultural institutions and artistic activities more inclusive and dementia-friendly.
