On 18 June, CAREWAY partners gathered in the beautiful city of Gdańsk, Poland, for the second Transnational Project Meeting, hosted by the Medical University of Gdańsk. The meeting marked an important step in the project’s development, as the CAREWAY cancer literacy toolkit began to move from an initial concept towards a more concrete and tangible resource.
During the meeting, partners reviewed progress across the project’s work packages, discussed upcoming milestones and shared updates on the participatory activities being carried out in the partner countries. These activities are helping the consortium better understand the needs, barriers and experiences of the people and professionals who will ultimately will use the CAREWAY’s Educational Toolkit.
The Gdańsk meeting marked an important milestone for CAREWAY, as the cancer literacy toolkit began to move from an initial concept towards a more concrete resource, with partners discussing its content and reviewing the first mock-ups presented by SHINE.
As the partner responsible for the toolkit’s design and development, SHINE – represented at the meeting by Angela Freitas, Natália Machado and Taiane Abreu – presented the personas and initial mock-ups and facilitated discussions on the proposed content, structure and visual approach. This enabled the partners to explore how the toolkit could translate the project’s findings into an accessible, practical and user-centred educational resource.
This represented a further step towards turning the toolkit into reality. It also gave the consortium an opportunity to provide feedback and align on how the final resource can best support patients and their families, healthcare professionals, community workers and policy-makers ensuring that its content responds to the needs, experiences and questions of the people who will use it.
Leading outreach, communication and sustainability
SHINE also coordinates efforts to raise awareness of the project, communicate its activities and results, and engage the different target audiences who can benefit from or contribute to the development of the toolkit. Discussions in Gdańsk focused on upcoming dissemination and stakeholder-engagement activities, as well as strategies to strengthen the long-term use and impact of CAREWAY’s results. This includes ensuring that the educational toolkit and training materials reach relevant audiences, supporting the visibility of the project’s policy recommendations and promoting collaboration between the healthcare and community sectors.
As sustainability is closely connected to CAREWAY’s ambition to integrate inclusive cancer education into lifelong learning and public health, SHINE will continue to support the consortium in identifying opportunities for the project’s resources and partnerships to continue generating value after the funded period.
The meeting also provided an important opportunity to strengthen cooperation among partners from Finland, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal and Romania and to reinforce their shared commitment to more inclusive cancer education.
