On 16 May, the AFECO consortium held its final webinar titled ” Empowering older adults to apply age- and eco-friendly solutions.”
During the event, led by Willeke van Staalduinen, AFEdemy, SHINE presented the AFECO Learning Place, an interactive online platform developed to help older adults, caregivers, and community professionals explore practical affordable solutions for creating age- and eco-friendly living environments. Now fully finalised and available in seven languages, the platform can be accessed at https://afeco.eu/en/entrance-afeco.
The webinar was also the occasion to present the key outcomes of the project, including the results of a robust validation process conducted between February and March 2025. More than 100 older adults and trainers across six European countries participated in testing the platform.
This iterative, user-centred development process allowed the Consortium to adjust the learning content and the digital learning place to better reflect the diverse needs and expectations of older adults and carers . The result is a e-learning platform that is open, user-friendly, designed inclusively and easily accessible for those looking to support aging in place.
A standout feature of the AFECO Learning Place is the possibility to follow the programme through a tailored learning path, which is generated for each user based on their responses to a brief survey. The platform also includes interactive modules, real-life examples, and practical guidance on how to apply age- and eco-friendly adaptations at home and in the community.
The project’s final webinar not only showcased the platform but also highlighted the importance of collaborative, transnational efforts in addressing Europe’s demographic and environmental challenges.
