By promoting older adults’ skills and competences, they will better analyse and use affordable age- and eco-friendly principles in their home and communities, thus creating the right conditions for social inclusion and ageing in place, through an environmentally responsible way of living. This was the baseline to create the project that was kicked off on January 18th and 19th, in Gouda (the Netherlands) and hosted by AFEdemy.
AFECO | Empowering Older Adults to Apply Affordable Eco- and Age-Friendly Solutions to Age in Place aims to raise awareness and educate older people, (in)formal caregivers and social workers about the importance of age-friendly and eco-friendly environments (home and community/neighbourhood) as a valuable tool for active ageing and ageing in place. In the caregiving context, age-friendly and eco-friendly environments are essential to counter the signs of biological decline such as frailty or disease experienced by older adults in need of care.
This consortium consists in seven organisations from six European countries that will work together until May 2025, to develop:
- A BASELINE STUDY, focused on educational needs; social, financial, cultural and educational contexts as well as policies in each of the project countries.
- A CURRICULUM, including topic around age-friendly and eco-friendly principles.
- AN INTERACTIVE E-LEARNING PLATFORM, inclusively designed, open and accessible to learn and to apply the knowledge and practices learned.
- A VALIDATION HANDBOOK with the final version of the education and training contents, as well as the methodology to delivery the content.
This SHAFE inspired project will foster higher participation in society, quality of life and prolonged independent living. SHINE is very proud to contribute to it!
Soon, we will launch the website, so stay tuned!
